France/Italy, 1974, Robert Bresson
Bresson’s film is a severe, intentionally unglamorized and unromanticized retelling of the Arthurian legend. Returning from the futile quest for the Holy Grail, Sir Lancelot and the Knights of the Round Table find Camelot in decay. Amidst this desolation, Lancelot's adulterous affair with Queen Guinevere leads to internal strife and the ultimate downfall of the chivalric order. The film presents a meditative reflection on honor, betrayal, and the disintegration of ideals. Bresson rejected the FIPRESCI Award that the film won at the 1974 Cannes Film Festival. Introduced by Grafton Nunes. Subtitles. 85 min.
