Orientation

At the Cleveland Institute of Art, we provide summer and fall orientation programs, as well as a workshop for those with learning disabilities, to teach our incoming students about the wide range of resources available to them on campus.

Summer Orientation (StART)

Student Advising, Registration, and Testing, or StART, is CIA's mandatory, overnight summer program for all incoming, first-year students. Additionally, we host StART for transfer students, an abbreviated summer orientation program designed specifically for students transferring credits from other institutions of higher education and for any first-year student who is 22 years of age or older. StART takes place in late June each year.

Learning Disability Orientation

As part of StART, the Office of Learning Support Services provides a workshop for students with documented learning disabilities (e.g., ADD, ADHD, and dyslexia) to learn about helpful services on campus to meet their unique needs. The program is offered for free and takes place right before the StART program. Learn more about the Learning Disability Workshop.

Fall Orientation

Fall Orientation is a mandatory two-day program that occurs shortly after students move on campus in August. Students will learn more about their classmates, gain an understanding of faculty expectations, familiarize themselves with our campus and University Circle, and discover how to be a successful student at CIA.
