Student-Run Exhibition Showcases Student Talent
The Cleveland Institute of Art announces the 63rd Annual Student Independent Exhibition.
Cleveland: Students at The Cleveland Institute of Art will showcase their talent, creativity and passion at this year’s Student Independent Exhibition (S.I.E.) This exhibition marks the 63rd annual S.I.E. in the history of The Cleveland Institute of Art. S.I.E is a juried exhibition of work created by current CIA students and is sponsored by Prizm-The Artist's Supply Store, and The Student Leadership Council.
The students of The Cleveland Institute of Art nominate and select a jury of three nationally recognized emerging artists. This year’s judges are Patty Chang, John Copeland and Tara Mateik. Patty Chang is primarily known for her short films, videos and performance art. She has staged solo shows in cities such as Madrid, Visby and New York City (where she now lives and works.) John Copeland, who also lives and works in New York City, explores counter culture in his work. He is represented by the Nicholas Robinson gallery in NYC, and shows national and internationally. Tara Mateik, who also lives and teaches in NYC, creates videos, performances and writings. He has shown work at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and many other places.
The Student Independent Exhibition will hang from February 13 – March 14, 2009. There will be an opening reception on Friday, February 13 from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. that is free and open to the public. The Exhibition will be at the Cleveland Institute of Art, 11141 East Boulevard, Cleveland, in its Reinberger Galleries in the Gund Building. Parking is available in the Gund building lot.
