Add event to my calendar

Spend a lunch hour learning about the latest in art and design during these Friday lectures. Each lecture features a variety of artists and designers from around the world, including CIA faculty and visiting artists. This event is free and open to the public. Pizza and beverages will be provided.

Sarah FitzSimons will discuss her recent work, including site-specific sculptures in California, Denmark, and Germany. Her projects range from temporary interventions to permanently placed works and are designed to interact with and derive meaning from their surroundings. These pieces are then interpreted and reframed through photography, video, and storytelling. Much of the work seeks to connect our constructed culture, daily lives and human-time-scale with the wider patterns of nature and deep geologic time.

Sarah FitzSimons, Visual Artist. (b. Euclid, OH) FitzSimons had exhibited internationally and in cities across the US. Recent exhibitions and commissioned works include Ponto e Coordinada (Monsaraz, Portugal); Vadehavsfestival, (Mandø, Denmark); International Forest Art Path, (Darmstadt, Germany); Wisconsin Triennial (Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, WI); and The Hairy Blob (Hyde Park Art Center, Chicago, IL). She is the recipient of an Efroymson Contemporary Art Fellowship, Indianapolis, IN (2013); Research Grants from University of Wisconsin-Madison (2011–2014); Fast Track Grant, Ohio Arts Council (2010); and fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, Vermont Studio Center, and Djerassi Foundation.
