CIA video shows off new Uptown Residence Hall
France, Ireland, Italy | 2011 | Paolo Sorrentino
Moviegoers buzzed about this odd but lovable road movie when we showed it in January—so we’re bringing it back. Sean Penn is unforgettable as Cheyenne, a retired American rock star with Edward Scissorhands-like features (black hair, pasty face, red lips, timid voice) living in Dublin. When his estranged, Holocaust-survivor father is dying, Cheyenne returns to the U.S. Soon he’s an avenging angel, traversing America to locate and kill the aged ex-Nazi who humiliated his dad at Auschwitz. But this movie is no revenge Götterdämmerung à la Quentin Tarantino. It’s a gentle, gorgeous, often funny fable about growing up and finding wisdom—one of the overlooked gems of 2012. With Frances McDormand, Judd Hirsch, and David Byrne.
