Henri-Georges Clouzot's 1953 French nail-biter WAGES OF FEAR is explosive!
Yves Montand stars in Henri-Georges Clouzot's French thriller THE WAGES OF FEAR, one of the most suspenseful movies ever made! Set in a Central American petroleum republic, this 1953 film follows four down-on-their-luck drifters who take on a veritable suicide mission: driving two truckloads of volatile nitroglycerine across 300 miles of perilous mountain roads! On Friday and Saturday you can see this classic from the director of DIABOLIQUE in a new 35mm print of its original, uncut, 147-min. version. Don't miss it! Watch the original trailer here.

Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi star in 1932 creepfest ISLAND OF LOST SOULS
Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi star in ISLAND OF LOST SOULS, a notorious 1932 film version of H. G. Wells’ novel The Island of Dr. Moreau. The movie focuses on a mad scientist on a remote island who tries to turn jungle beasts into humans. Dialogue from this creepy movie (which was banned in Britain for over 25 years!) has seeped into pop culture, even inspiring rock musicians from Devo (“Are we not men?”) and Oingo Boingo to Van Halen. The cinematography by the great Karl Struss (SUNRISE) should look fabulous in the 35mm print from the Universal Pictures studio archive that we will show on Friday and Saturday.

Aki Kaurismaki's deadpan Finnish fable THE MATCH FACTORY GIRL is matchless
The deadpan proletarian fables of Finland’s master filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki walk a fine line between tragedy and comedy. This is well seen in THE MATCH FACTORY GIRL, his droll but affecting blue collar masterpiece from 1990, about a shy, lonely factory worker (Kaurismäki’s regular muse Kati Outinen) who prevails despite a dull job, a pathetic home life, and a drab social life. The movie will be preceded on Friday and Saturday by Kaurismäki’s 6-min. music film "Those Were the Days," starring his outlandish rock band, the Leningrad Cowboys. Print this email and present it at the box office and see both Kaurismäki movies for only $7 ($6 if you're a Cinematheque member). It's our Deal of the Week! (Limit two discount admissions per print-out)

SHADOW DANCER is latest from director of "Man on Wire"
Clive Owen and Andrea Riseborough (W.E., OBLIVION) star in SHADOW DANCER, the new film from James Marsh, the director of MAN ON WIRE and PROJECT NIM. The movie is a taut, slow-burn thriller, set in 1993 Belfast, about an Irish woman and I.R.A. member who agrees to become a mole for MI5 rather than go to prison and leave her young son. Gillian Anderson co-stars in this film which was named a “Critics’ Pick" by The New York Times. It makes its Cleveland debut on Thursday in the Mandel Screening Room inside CIA’s Joseph McCullough Center, 11610 Euclid Ave. Park free in the rear CIA lot off E. 117th St. Here's the trailer
