Geoffrey Rush, Charlotte Rampling star in new Aussie drama THE EYE OF THE STORM.
Geoffrey Rush, Charlotte Rampling, and Judy Davis star in Fred Schepisi's THE EYE OF THE STORM, a new Australian drama that won the critics award at the 2011 Melbourne Int’l Film Festival. The film follows two grown children of a wealthy Australian matriarch—one (Rush) is a stage actor, the other (Davis) a neurotic divorcee—who fly from Europe to the deathbed of their mother (Rampling) Down Under. What follows is a bitter, caustic family reunion that’s more about the disposition of wealth than the dispensing of goodbyes. From the director of THE CHANT OF JIMMIE BLACKSMITH, ROXANNE, SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION, et al. Based on a novel by Nobel Prize winner Patrick White. Catch its exclusive Cleveland-area premiere on Saturday or Sunday.

Chilling new doc THE IMPOSTER tells incredible (but true) story
Truth is stranger than fiction in THE IMPOSTER, a gripping and acclaimed new documentary about a bold young European man who convinces a grieving Texas family that he is their 16-year-old son and brother who mysteriously disappeared three years ago. The Hollywood Reporter calls it "a mesmerizing psychological thriller bulging with twists, turns, nasty insinuations and shocking revelations that might have leaped from the pages of a Patricia Highsmith novel," while Entertainment Weekly declares it's "the documentary equivalent of a page-turner.” Catch its exclusive East Side Cleveland premiere on Saturday or Sunday. Print this email and present it at the box office and pay only $7 ($5 if you're a Cinematheque member). It's our Deal of the Week! (Limit two discount admissions per print-out)

Lone cowboy battles a changing world in poetic, unique LONELY ARE THE BRAVE
David Miller's LONELY ARE THE BRAVE (1962) is a one-of-a-kind modern western written by Dalton Trumbo, from a novel by Edward Abbey. Kirk Douglas plays a fiercely independent, freedom-loving cowboy who breaks out of prison and tries to escape to Mexico before a hi-tech posse can apprehend him. This poignant, “passing of the Old West” drama indelibly captures two conflicting American ways of life (yet has nothing to do with the recent election!). It is also reputedly Kirk Douglas’ favorite of all his films. Gena Rowlands and Walter Matthau co-star. See it in a 35mm scope print on Saturday or Sunday. Here's the original trailer.

CIA ex-President Joe McCullough dies
Joseph McCullough, a painter who served as President of the Cleveland Institute of Art from 1954 to 1988, died at home this past Saturday at age 90. It was McCullough who, in 1986, took the Cleveland Cinematheque under CIA's wing and hired John Ewing to run the fledgling program. The Institute's Joseph McCullough Center for the Visual Arts on Euclid Avenue is named after him. Our condolences go out to his family.
