Ghoulishly funny BURKE AND HARE is the first John Landis film in over a decade! BURKE AND HARE, John Landis' first feature in 12 years, is a ghoulish black comedy shot in Great Britain, the setting of his cult classic AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON. Simon Pegg and a non-motion-captured Andy Serkis play William Burke and William Hare, two real-life 19th-century Scotsmen who made a literal killing by selling (and producing) fresh cadavers for scientific research. Tom Wilkinson, Isla Fisher, and Tim Curry co-star. The New York Times calls it "a droll take on one of the most notorious mass-murder cases of the 19th century." See its exclusive Cleveland premiere on Sunday or Monday. It's humor Romanian style in six-part satire TALES FROM THE GOLDEN AGE Six absurdist "urban legends" of Romanian life under dictator Nicolae Ceausescu are recounted in TALES FROM THE GOLDEN AGE, a funny, satiric, multi-episode Romanian film written and co-directed by Cristian Mungiu (4 MONTHS, 3 WEEKS AND 2 DAYS). The film poses numerous questions. How do you doctor a newspaper photo so that the French President isn't taller than your country's dictator? How does an apartment dweller surreptitiously slaughter a pig in a pork-starved city so that covetous neighbors don't discover his windfall? How do you teach illiterate farmers to read? The answers are at once comic and tragic-- in the vaunted tradition of recent, award-winning Romanian cinema. Watch this short trailer, then see the whole movie on Saturday or Sunday. I'M GLAD MY MOTHER IS ALIVE charts anguished mother and son reunion In I'M GLAD MY MOTHER IS ALIVE, the new drama by veteran French filmmaker Claude Miller (A SECRET, GARDE A VUE) and his son Nathan, a sullen, troubled young man scarred by having been given up for adoption at age five seeks out his birth mother. When he finds her, he courts her almost like a beau-and their fraught, Freudian relationship gets weirder from there. The New York Times designated this movie a "Critics' Pick," adding that it is "anything but the clichéd fantasy of a blissful mother-child reunion." Catch the exclusive Cleveland premiere on Saturday or Sunday. Here's the trailer. Anthony Mann's THE FAR COUNTRY is rare Western set in Alaska; James Stewart stars THE FAR COUNTRY (1954) was James Stewart's fourth Western with director Anthony Mann. Stewart plays a cattleman who joins the Klondike Gold Rush. But even in Alaska he can't escape the wrath of a corrupt judge with whom he once locked horns. See it in a new 35mm color print from the Universal Pictures studio archive on Saturday or Monday. Print this post and present it at the box office and pay only $7 ($5 if you're a Cinematheque member). It's our Deal of the Week!
