9/10-12: Thu Tran, Breathless, Agora And House!

THU TRAN, creator of IFC TV's FOOD PARTY, returns to her alma mater 2005 Cleveland Institute of Art grad Thu Tran is the creator and host of the award-winning TV series "Food Party," a unique, whimsical, and colorful blend of Julia Child and Pee-wee's Playhouse that airs on Tuesday nights on the Independent Film Channel. This Sunday night at 7 Thu returns to her alma mater to participate in A "FOOD PARTY" PARTY WITH THU TRAN . This special show will include highlights from her surreal hit series, in which puppets help her prepare gourmet delights for special "celebrity" guests. Thu will also show three brand-new short films, and will answer audience questions about the series, which is co-written, directed, designed, and shot by other CIA grads. Admission to this event is $10, members and CIA students & staff $7. It is presented courtesy of IFC (special thanks to Douglas Marshall). Jean-Paul Belmondo and Jean Seberg star in Jean-Luc Godard's first feature, a French New Wave landmark that melds a B-movie crime story (Parisian gangster goes on the lam with American girlfriend) with groundbreaking stylistic innovations. To prepare for BREATHLESS, you can see a new documentary about the relationship between Godard and Francois Truffaut, TWO IN THE WAVE, on Wed., 9/8 at 7 pm at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Early Christians are the religious fundamentalists in historical epic AGORA Rachel Weisz stars in AGORA , a new multi-million-dollar epic from Alejandro Amenábar, the celebrated Spanish director of THE OTHERS and the Oscar-winning THE SEA INSIDE. Set in 4th-century Roman Egypt, this English-language film focuses on the mathematician and astronomer Hypatia as she deals with the rise of Christian fundamentalism and the destruction of the Library of Alexandria. Moviegoers turned away from July's sold-out sneak preview of AGORA The Cleveland Museum of Art should not miss the return of the movie this Saturday or Sunday! 1970s Japanese horror movie HOUSE returns to thrill, delight, and dumbfound Friday and Saturday marks a homecoming of sorts for HOUSE (HAUSU) , Nobuhiko Obayashi's crazy, psychedelic, one-of-a-kind 1977 Japanese horror comedy that was first shown at the Cinematheque in March. Now a major cult hit, the movie follows a group of teenage Japanese schoolgirls as they vacation at a creaky old house in the country. There they encounter evil spirits, a demonic housecat, a bloodthirsty piano, and a panoply of cheesy late 1970s analog video effects. Every person coming to see HOUSE this weekend will receive two free HOUSE decals (while supplies last) courtesy of Janus Films.
