Fellini series continues with two more Italian masterpieces: THE NIGHTS OF CABIRIA & LA DOLCE VITAFellini's wife Giulietta Masina, who lit up the screen in "La Strada," is equally heartbreaking in THE NIGHTS OF CABIRIA , a 1956 comedy-drama that won the Academy Award for Best Foreign-Language Film. Masina plays an eternally optimistic Rome streetwalker yearning for the man of her dreams. (Fellini's movie inspired the musical "Sweet Charity.") The restored 35mm print we will show contains a seven-minute sequence that was cut for the film's original release. Take a trip down memory lane and watch Siskel & Ebert talk about this movie at the time of its 1998 reissue. Then see see the film itself on Friday or Saturday. Plus you can see "Nights of Cabiria" for only $6 ($5 if you're a Cinematheque member) by printing this post and presenting it at the box office. It's our Deal of the Week! (Limit two discount admissions per print out) Marcello Mastroianni makes his first appearance in a Fellini film in LA DOLCE VITA, showing Sunday afternoon in a 35mm 'scope print! He plays a gossip columnist both attracted and repelled by the wild, excessive behavior of Rome's fashionable but soulless jet set. Anita Ekberg co-stars in this iconic three-hour masterpiece that shocked 1960s moviegoers and gave the world the term "paparazzi." Terry Tarantino, owner of the two restaurants (La Dolce Vita and La Strada) that are sponsoring our Fellini series, has announced a special offer for Fellini filmgoers. Show your ticket stub from the movie you attend and receive a free appetizer with the purchase of an entree at either restaurant! Offer good through February 28, 2010. Argentine drama THE HEADLESS WOMAN is one of the major int'l films of the year! We have discovered an error in our November-December calendar. THE HEADLESS WOMAN will not show at 4:30 pm on Sunday, November 15, but at 6:30 pm that day (the same time it plays on Thursday, November 12). We apologize for this mistake, but we know you don't want to miss one of the most acclaimed foreign films of the past 18 months (heralded at major festivals like Cannes, Toronto, and New York). With an overalll score of 81 out of 100 on metacritic.com, Lucrecia Martel's drama chronicles the mental deterioration of a middle-aged professional woman who, in a careless moment, may have killed someone with her car. CIM pianist to perform Scott Joplin during three Buster Keaton short comedies AN EVENING OF BUSTER KEATON SHORT FILMS is only half of it. The other half is the glorious ragtime music of Scott Joplin, which Cleveland Institute of Music doctoral student Shuai Bertalan-Wang will perform on piano Friday night during our screenings of Keaton's uproarious "One Week" (pictured above), "The Play House," and "Cops." CWRU Associate Professor of Film Studies Rob Spadoni organized this special presentation, which is co-sponsored by the CWRU Department of English and the Baker-Nord Center for the Humanities. Rob will also introduce the films. CWRU students & staff, Case Friends of English, and kids 12 & under can see this sure-to-be-delightful show for only $6. Hilarious YOU, THE LIVING features bizarre blackout sketches on modern life Words can't do justice to Roy Andersson's droll and deadpan Swedish film YOU, THE LIVING . The Cinematheque proudly co-presented this film at the 2008 Cleveland International Film Festival; now, 20 months later, we're happy to bring it to our own theatre. Don't miss it on Saturday or Sunday. Also don't miss "17 Swedish Designers," an exhibition currently on view in the CIA's Reinberger Galleries. HELL DRIVERS: where are Cleveland Hts.' traffic cops when you really need them? HELL DRIVERS , the 1957 British film about reckless and ruthless truckers, proved so entertaining to those who saw it in October that we just had to bring it back -- especially while the uncut British print (17 minutes longer than the U.S. version) was still in the country. Who would've guessed that hauling gravel could be so exciting, competitive, and deadly? Ex-con Stanley Baker finds out the hard way, when he runs afoul of his new employer's dastardly top-dog driver Patrick McGoohan (pictured above). The supporting cast includes Hebert Lom, Peggy Cummins, William Hartnell, David McCallum, and Sean Connery. It's film noir on wheels; hitch a ride on Saturday night and fasten your seat belts! Crispin Glover, RAIDERS ADAPTATION tickets now on sale at box office Advance tickets are now on sale for two of the Cinematheque's most eagerly anticipated events of November and December: Crispin Glover's appearance with his films IT IS FINE! EVERYTHING IS FINE and WHAT IS IT? on Friday, November 20, and the return of Chris Strompolos and Eric Zala with their RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK: THE ADAPTATION on December 3 & 4. Tickets for each of these three events are $12, Cinematheque members $8. Non-members can see both Crispin Glover films on 11/20 for only $20. Kids 12 & under can see the RAIDERS ADAPTATION for only $8. Tickets can be purchased in person at the box office on show nights or by credit card over the phone by calling (216) 421-7450.
