Student Update from Guatemala Project

05/23/14  |  Posted by  |  Posted in Students in the Community

Hi, everyone. Max Beers here, from on the ground in San Miguel Duenas, Guatemala, where I am shooting video for a documentary on a collaborative project with students and alum from Kent State's College of Architecture & Environmental Design. We are helping to build a home for a family in need through an NGO called, Constru Casa. Since I last checked in there has been a lot of cultural experience. First of all, Spanish skills have been developing rapidly. This is a necessity when needing to communicate with families and the masons at the construction site. Each work day, Geovani picks us up at 8:15 am sharp in his shell of a car. It gets us to and from Antigua to our work site in San Miguel Duenas with a smile. Today while working on Guillermo's house, his daughter Kendra became very comfortable with us and took over my video camera! Our group of 5 volunteers has been very busy here. But please watch for another update in a couple of days.
