SCATTER MY ASHES AT BERGDORF'S looks at legendary NYC department store
SCATTER MY ASHES AT BERGDORF’S is a new documentary about the legendary Fifth Avenue luxury goods department store Bergdorf Goodman. The movie features interviews with fashion designers, style icons, and celebrities such as Candice Bergen, Tom Ford, and Vera Wang, among others. It receives its Cleveland theatrical premiere on Saturday and Sunday.

CASTLE IN THE SKY opens series of Miyazaki movies in English
In Hayao Miyazaki's 1986 Japanese animated film CASTLE IN THE SKY, a young girl battles sky pirates and government agents for possession of a magical levitation stone. The rock also unlocks the secrets of Laputa, a mysterious floating island in the sky. This funny, thrilling, dazzling animated aerial adventure “may be Miyazaki’s most purely enjoyable movie,” according to Film Comment. The English version we will show on Friday and Saturday features voices by Anna Paquin, James Van Der Beek, Cloris Leachman, Mark Hamill, and others. Kids 12 & under are only $6.

California teens rob celebrity homes in Sofia Coppola's THE BLING RING
THE BLING RING, the new film from Sofia Coppola (THE VIRGIN SUICIDES, LOST IN TRANSLATION), tells an incredible true story: about how a gang of amoral, fame-obsessed SoCal teens broke into and robbed the homes of Paris Hilton and other celebrities who were out of town, stealing millions in cash, jewelry, clothes, and accessories. Emma Watson heads an attractive young cast. Catch THE BLING RING on Saturday or Sunday.

Johnny Depp stars in Jim Jarmusch's quirky, moody Western DEAD MAN
18 years before he played Tonto in the ill-fated THE LONE RANGER, Johnny Depp played a “stupid white man” from Cleveland in DEAD MAN, a transcendental 1995 Western by Akron-born Jim Jarmusch. Depp portrays a meek, 19th-century accountant named William Blake who journeys west and inadvertently becomes a wanted man. A wryly amusing Native American guide (Gary Farmer) takes him under his wing and leads him into uncharted territory. Crispin Glover, Iggy Pop, and Robert Mitchum head a great supporting cast. Neil Young did the music. See it in 35mm on Thursday or Friday.

Sarah Polley investigates her own family in fascinating doc STORIES WE TELL
STORIES WE TELL, the latest film by Canadian actress and director Sarah Polley, is one of the most acclaimed movies of the past year. (It has an overall metacritic.com score of 90 out of 100, and a 95% "fresh" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.) In the movie, Polley turns her camera on her father, siblings, other relatives, and family friends to explore not only the secret life of her late actress mother, who died in 1990, but also the myths and ambiguities surrounding Polley's own birth 34 years ago. The result is fascinating kaleidoscope of lore, lies, half-truths, re-creations, and revelations. Don't miss it on Thursday or Sunday. Print this email and present it at the box office and pay only $7 ($6 if you're a Cinematheque member). It's our Deal of the Week! (Limit two discount admissions per print-out.)
