German thriller THE SILENCE focuses on two unsolved crimes, 23 years apart
In THE SILENCE, a “harrowing and humane German-language whodunit” (Entertainment Weekly), a bicycle belonging to a missing 13-year-old girl is found in the same field where another child was murdered 23 years earlier. Detectives try to locate the girl. But this new disappearance causes the cops, culprits, and parents from the previous unsolved case to revisit their painful past. Time Out New York awarded THE SILENCE “four stars," calling it "a first-rate thriller.” Catch it in 35mm on Friday or Saturday.

Acclaimed East German-set drama BARBARA returns by popular demand
Christian Petzold's BARBARA was Germany’s official entry for this year’s foreign language film Oscar. As one of the most gripping and acclaimed movies of 2012, with unanimous favorable reviews on metacrtic.com and an overall rating of 86 out of 100, it should have been nominated for the award. Nina Hoss, Petzold's regular muse (YELLA, JERICHOW), plays a surgeon in 1980 East Germany who is demoted to a small rural hospital on the Baltic Sea after she expresses a desire to leave the repressive GDR. There, under the watchful eyes of a Stasi spies, she continues to plot her escape. The L.A. Times says that BARBARA is "terrific…as smart, thoughtful and emotionally involving as just about anything that's out there.” Don't miss it on Thursday or Saturday. NOTE: Moviegoers attending Saturday's show should allow extra time to park. The Cleveland Museum of Art's Summer Solstice party will be happening across the street starting at 8 pm that night.

Four-part 1966 French comedy AS LONG AS YOU'RE HEALTHY continues well-liked Pierre Étaix series
Pierre Étaix’s third feature AS LONG AS YOU'RE HEALTHYpresents four comic vignettes on modern life. The episodes focus on an insomniac spending the night reading about vampires; a moviegoer who can’t find a seat in a crowded theatre; a psychiatrist with more problems than his patients; and a hunter who has a run-in with both a farmer and a bickering, picnicking couple. This 1966 comedy will be preceded at showtime by Étaix’s "Feeling Good," a short camping comedy that was originally part of AS LONG AS YOU'RE HEALTHY but which Étaix later removed. BUSTER KEATON’S TWO-REEL COMEDIES, PROGRAM 4 features the brilliant silent-cinema clown in four more classic shorts he starred in and directed: "My Wife’s Relations," in which Buster mistakenly marries a woman with four gorilla-like brothers; "The Blacksmith," in which Buster plays a bumbling smithy; "The Frozen North" (pictured above), in which Buster spoofs William S. Hart’s melodramatic westerns (Hart was not amused); and "Daydreams," in which Buster tries to make it in the big city. All these 1922 movies are silent with music tracks and will be shown in 35mm prints. Bring kids!
