Amanda Palmer: The Art of Asking

Amanda F*cking Palmer, lead pianist and singer of Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra, rose to fame as co-punk cabaret member of The Dresden Dolls. She has been involved in a plethora of visual, musical, and theatrical collaborations too complex and wonderful to describe in just one article! Ukulele-slaying, body positive, radical, and brutally honest, Amanda is a fascinating individual whose conviction and generosity mark her as my all time favorite artist. A multifaceted inspiration, perhaps one of her most admirable feats was her Kickstarter triumph – Palmer crowd-funded her new tour, art book, and album, raising over $1,000,000 by reaching out to her fans. A master of social media, Amanda utilizes Twitter and countless other digital outlets to connect to her fans and collaborate with artists, offering her music for free. Amanda recently gave a TED talk detailing the start of her career, her Kickstarter campaign, and The Art of Asking:
