Second Surface is a collaborative project between MIT Media Lab and Sony Corporation to allow users to layer 3D photographs, text, and drawings in real time, incorporating the environment. Draw, rotate the iPad, and watch the drawings turn in space with it as artwork is layered. The drawings and images are shared with whoever else is using the program within the same space and their own drawings and images can be juxtaposed in relation to those of others. It’s a unique spin on collaborative communication that allows the sharing of artistic abilities, creating a foundation for others to build on. In a classroom setting imagine everyone being able to have a different perspective of the same space, and add drawings in correlation with what others are doing at the same time. Doodling just got a whole lot more creative.
