Gregg Araki's KABOOM is garish SoCal sci-fi sex comedy with a gorgeous young cast KABOOM , the new movie by Gregg Araki (SMILEY FACE, MYSTERIOUS SKIN), is a trippy sci-fi sex comedy in which comely SoCal college students search for their sexual identities via a panoply of pairings. Add pop colors and a possible evil conspiracy and you get "SCOOBY-DOO with sex, drugs, and tattooed hotties," according to J. Hoberman in The Village Voice. Catch the film's 35mm and Cleveland East Side premiere on Thursday or Saturday. Adults only! I SAW THE DEVIL is masterful, gripping South Korean thriller -- if you can stomach it In I SAW THE DEVIL , the mesmerizing South Korean crime drama from director Kim Jee-won (THE GOOD, THE BAD, THE WEIRD), a special agent pursues a monstrous serial killer who murdered his pregnant fiancée. In the process he himself turns into a monster. If you're 18 or over, see this violent but masterful thriller that features the star of OLD BOY on Thursday or Sunday. Print this post and present it at the box office and see it for only $6 ($5 if you're a Cinematheque member). It's our Deal of the Week! (Limit two discount admissions per print-out) Gael Garcia Bernal stars in EVEN THE RAIN, Spain's official Oscar contender Gael García Bernal and Luis Tosar star in Iciar Bollain's EVEN THE RAIN , Spain's official entry for this year's Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Written by Paul Laverty (Ken Loach's frequent screenwriter), the movie follows a Spanish film crew shooting a historical drama about Christopher Columbus in Cochabamba, Bolivia, when a dispute about the privatization of the local water supply erupts. Thus EVEN THE RAIN becomes a tale of colonialism, imperialism, and globalization during two different eras separated by 500 years. Catch it Saturday or Sunday in a 35mm color & scope print. Chaplin spoofs Hitler and Mussolini in THE GREAT DICTATOR Charlie Chaplin plays mustachioed, megalomaniacal dictator Adenoid Hynkel, as well as a look-alike Jewish ghetto barber, in his1940 classic THE GREAT DICTATOR . This prescient, passionate satire was released a year before the U.S. entered WWII. Jack Oakie plays Hynkel's cohort Benzino Napaloni, dictator of Bacteria; Paulette Goddard is the female lead. See it in a gorgeous new 35mm print on Saturday or Sunday. Kids 12 & under pay only $6. Filmmakers Ted Hope, David O. Russell, and Lisa Cholodenko to speak at Cleveland Public Library on May 26 Award-winning film directors David O. Russell (THE FIGHTER) and Lisa Cholodenko (THE KIDS ARE ALL RIGHT) will join producer Ted Hope (AMERICAN SPLENDOR, 21 GRAMS) for a conversation on the independent film industry on Thursday, May 26, at 6:30 pm in the Cleveland Public Library's Stokes Auditorium.
