J. Todd Anderson, one of the movie industry's top storyboard artists, will appear in person on Friday, October 8, at 7:30 pm at the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque to discuss and demonstrate "The Art of Motion Picture Storyboarding." Anderson has been the storyboard artist on every Coen brothers movie starting with RAISING ARIZONA (1987), including the upcoming TRUE GRIT. He has also drawn storyboards for feature films directed by George Clooney, Barry Sonnenfeld, Frank Oz, Michael Almereyda, and others. He is a member of the Directors Guild of America. Anderson will use pen and paper to demonstrate the practice of storyboarding, which allows directors to visualize shots and scenes before committing them to film. He will also bring some of the storyboard "field manuals" that he created for the Coens and answer audience questions. After Anderson's presentation, at 9:30 pm, the Cinematheque will screen FARGO, Joel and Ethan Coen's Oscar-winning 1996 police movie that stars Frances McDormand, William H. Macy, and Steve Buscemi. FARGO, for which Anderson did the storyboards, is the only Coen brothers movie in which he also acts (he plays "Victim in the Field"). Admission to "The Art of Motion Picture Storyboarding" (including the screening of FARGO) is $12, Cinematheque members and CIA students & staff $8. Admission to FARGO only is $9, Cinematheque members and CIA students & staff $6. Tickets can be purchased at the door after 6:30 pm on October 8. The Cinematheque is located inside the Cleveland Institute of Art at 11141 East Boulevard in University Circle. Free parking for filmgoers is available in the CIA's adjacent lot. For further information or images, call John Ewing or Tim Harry at (216) 421-7450 or go to www.cia.edu/cinematheque.
