New Tennessee Williams script filmed in THE LOSS OF A TEARDROP DIAMOND A newly-rediscovered original screenplay penned in 1957 by the great Tennessee Williams is brought to the screen in THE LOSS OF A TEARDROP DIAMOND. Jodie Markell's movie is set in 1920s Memphis and tells of a headstrong debutante (Bryce Dallas Howard) who tries to pass off the impoverished son of a drunk as a wealthy suitor that her prominent family will embrace. Chris Evans, Will Patton, Ellen Burstyn, and Ann-Margret co-star. See it Saturday or Sunday. Lynch's MULLHOLLAND DR. voted "Best Film of the 2000's" in three different polls Voted best film of the past decade in three different polls of critics, curators, bloggers, and filmmakers, David Lynch's MULHOLLAND DR. is a haunting, enigmatic Hollyweird saga that will have you thinking about it for days. The movie focuses on the relationship between two actresses, one (Naomi Watts) who wants to break into the industry and another (Laura Elena Harring) who has amnesia after a traumatic car crash. Like the best of Lynch, the story unfolds with a dream logic, taking as many twists and turns as the titular road. Catch it in a 35mm print Thursday or Friday. Truffaut looks up to children in enchanting, delightful SMALL CHANGE (1976) François Truffaut pays loving tribute to childhood in his delightful, touching SMALL CHANGE (1976), one of the late French master's best-loved films. Assorted vignettes depict the joys, sorrows, and adventures of young children living in a small provincial French town during the final weeks of the school year. Truffaut himself talks about the movie in this trailer http://blog.cia.edu/cinematheque/?p=615. The whole film shows Saturday and Sunday. Oscar-winning animator makes feature debut with moving MARY AND MAX Toni Collette, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Barry Humphries (aka Dame Edna), and Eric Bana supply the main voices in MARY AND MAX , the first feature by Oscar-winning Australian animator Adam Elliott ("Harvie Crumpet"). Made in a painstaking stop-motion process named "clayography," this 2009 movie chronicles the bittersweet 20-year correspondence between two pen pals: a lonely young Australian girl living in a drab Melbourne suburb and a fat, middle-aged.Jewish man with Asperger's Syndrome whom she picks at random from the Manhattan phone book. Watch the trailer and then catch the whole film on Saturday or Sunday. Chet Baker jazz score adds sizzle to already torrid NIGHT OF LUST Banned in the U.S. and in over half the world (or so the ads claim), NIGHT OF LUST his a fascinating 1963 artifact from longtime French sexploitation director José Bénazéraf. The French original was titled "Le Concerto de la Peur" but the version we will screen has been trimmed by 15 minutes and dubbed into English. The movie weds striking b&w photography of 1960s Paris and a lot of naked women to an amazing free-jazz score by Chet Baker. The pulpy plot revolves around a turf war between two rival gang leaders trafficking in drugs. But the main focus seems to be the ample nudity, which American sleazemeister Bob Cresse may have augmented when he bought the movie for U.S. distribution. Watch this teaser trailer (literally) and then catch the movie on Thursday or Friday. In fact, print this email and present it at the box office and see "Night of Lust" for only $6 ($5 if you're a Cinematheque member). It's our Deal of the Week!
