Admissions . Visit CIA . Portfolio Days

Portfolio Days

Your portfolio is one of the most important components of your application to CIA, so we have dedicated several days each academic year to help you build your portfolio. During a Portfolio Day event, CIA faculty members and admissions counselors will be on hand to review your portfolio and give you tips on creating your best portfolio.

Portfolio Day at CIA

CIA will be hosting a Portfolio Day on Saturday, October 11, 2014 from 10am to 1pm.

Register online at cia.edu/ciapd2014.

Our representatives will review your artwork, discuss our programs, and answer questions about your creative career. Whether you’re in high school or are transferring from another college, you’re invited to join us.

While you’re here you can also learn more about how to fund an art school education and take tours of our campus.

This is not an examination or competition. At the event we will urge you to discuss your work; don’t hesitate to explain how you develop your ideas and where you want to go with them. And don’t be discouraged if you see work that is “better” than your own.

Your portfolio should include the best work you are making now. Do not spend an inordinate amount of time matting or framing your work, or worrying about presentation. The work itself is what is of interest. Whenever possible you should bring your original artwork.

If you bring digital files—of work that is too large or fragile to carry, or digital media of work that is time-based, such as video, animation, or performance—it is your responsibility to ensure that the work can be viewed. You may choose to bring your own slide viewer, video camera and/or laptop/tablet to show your work. Be advised however, that you will not have access to electric outlets.
