Jewelry & Metals: Jewelry Concepts

Course No. MET354.1  Credits: 3.0

Why is jewelry worn? How is jewelry worn? This course will focus on the motivations of why one makes jewelry and how jewelry functions in our contemporary and other societies. Questioning the boundaries of what defines jewelry along with the exploration of concepts will guide the work. Self initiated projects as well as assignments relating to jewelry concepts will take place throughout the semester. Readings, research, and dialogue will be an integral part of the class. Slides and actual contemporary and historic pieces will supplement the course. Open to Jewelry and Metals majors and all electives. 3 credits.
