John's love of art began at his high school in Midland Pennsylvania. By the age of seventeen he had already won many local awards and produced commissioned work for the Crucible Steel Company. John accepted a scholarship from the Art Students League in New York City. His career began at Pitt Studios in Cleveland and then he was recruited by Maby Trousdell in Atlanta, Georgia. He moved back to Cleveland in 1972 to freelance in advertising, packaging, illustration and graphic art while teaching illustration at Kent State University. John's numerous awards include Art Directors Club, The Cleveland Society of Communicating Arts, Erie Advertising Club and the Advertising Club of New York. Recently John was the featured speaker at the Lincoln Park Performing Arts Center where he was honored for his career in applied arts. John has been a professor of illustration at the Cleveland Institute of Art for over 30 years. He feels a profound responsibility to pass on a high standard of art education to all his students.
