Spend your lunch hour hearing from CIA Liberal Arts faculty member Elizabeth Hoag, who's also an archaeologist and anthropologist, as she presents "From Glaciers to Guardians: A Brief Deep History of the Indigenous People and Land in Northeast Ohio" during Lunch on Fridays at 12:15pm Friday, September 29 in CIA's Peter B. Lewis Theater.

This talk will present a brief overview of the history of Indigenous Peoples in Ohio from earliest occupation through European arrival/colonization, to give context to contemporary Indigenous peoples in Ohio and the Cleveland area today, including the struggles and successes they have experienced here.

Elizabeth Hoag is an archaeologist and anthropologist with nearly 30 years of professional and educational experience. She has worked at pre-contact and historical archaeological sites throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Connecticut, New York, Illinois and North Carolina, and spent several years working in Veracruz, Mexico. This fall marks her 10th year at the CIA where she teaches various social and natural science elective classes on topics including gender, urban anthropology, human evolution, and the history and cultures of Indigenous peoples in the New World. Her current research interests include gender and motherhood experiences in the field of archaeology, and pedagogy and best practices for teaching hands-on curriculum in the natural and social sciences. She has several forthcoming publications on these topics. Elizabeth the President-Elect of the Ohio Archaeological Council, and a board member of the Cleveland Archaeological Society, and Archaeological Advisor to the Shaker Historical Society. She holds a Master of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Cincinnati and is currently completing her Ph.D. at the State University of New York at Albany.

Parking: Lunch on Fridays attendees may park in any of CIA's parking lots: Lot 73, Lot 74 and the Annex Lot, all of which surround our campus. Please note that signs posted around those lots correctly state that parking typically requires a CIA permit or visitor pass and that violators will be ticketed. However, to accommodate our valued Lunch on Fridays attendees, that policy won't be enforced during the program. Have questions?
