In the fall of 2011, CIA launched one of the country’s first art and design curricula supported by iPads – the Digital Canvas Initiative. With a commitment to teaching essential group- and project-based courses, CIA faculty integrated iPad technology into the first year curriculum to add opportunities for problem-based learning through collaboration.

From sketch battles, to real-time classroom research, iPads support what has been considered a primarily hands-on education by eliminating barriers to group work and serving as a portable source of creative apps, tools for research, organization, communication, and collaboration.
CIA’s Digital Canvas Initiative supports:
All CIA freshmen receive an iPad to keep upon graduation. iPads are fully integrated into CIA’s Foundation curriculum supporting group-based work and creative exploration essential to a robust first-year experience.
